Citizenship by residence
Italy's Ministry of the Interior states that citizenship may be granted to a foreigner who has legally resided in Italy for at least ten years and meets the additional requirements. Its detailed guidance gives a four-year residence period for citizens of EU Member States, five years for stateless persons and several other special routes.
Long-term residence
For eligible third-country nationals, the EU long-term resident framework is based on five years of legal and continuous residence, subject to income, insurance, integration and national conditions.
